A Belgian Passion for the Citroën Méhari

In the fascinating world of collecting, some enthusiasts truly stand out. This is the case for Marc C., whom I had the pleasure of meeting—a dedicated collector of Citroën Méhari models at various scales, along with all the related memorabilia.

His story is one of a true passion that has turned into a way of life.

The Citroën Méhari, an iconic vehicle from the 1960s to the 1980s, can still be seen on the roads today. But for Marc, it is much more than just a car.

With its unique design, ABS plastic body, and remarkable versatility, the Méhari instantly evokes fond memories.

Every miniature in his collection represents a small piece of history and the freedom that defined that era.

Although his love for the Méhari was sparked by the Gendarmes of Saint-Tropez movies, everything truly began over 30 years ago, he confides. It started with a simple miniature he found at a flea market—a discovery that gradually transformed into an extensive collection. Over the years, it has grown to include scale models, vintage objects, toys, and an impressive library of both technical and playful books.

His collection features plastic miniatures, beach toys, promotional series, and metal replicas, each carefully selected for its authenticity and significance. Whether it’s models from Mont-Blanc, Norev, Solido, Heller, NEX, MOB, Aroutcheff, Polistil, or Ampatoys, there’s something to marvel at.

One could easily spend hours admiring all the treasures on display.

I was also impressed by his extensive collection of Méhari-themed memorabilia, ranging from metal signs and keychains to a wide array of custom-designed pieces. These designs cover various themes, including the Tour de France, vintage advertisements, film characters, and animated series.

Marc C. actively participates in gatherings with fellow Méhari enthusiasts from Belgium and France (MCDF) and exhibits his collection at various events. These occasions allow him to build connections while sharing his passion with other Méhari lovers, delighting visitors of all ages.

Ten years ago, he created a rich and detailed website, www.mehari-expo.be, which I highly recommend. A social media page has also been launched, where he continues to share his passion with an active community spanning across Europe and beyond.

In a fast-paced world, Marc has found in his collection a space for creativity and nostalgia—a beautiful tribute to the adventurous spirit that the Méhari still represents today.

Een Belgische passie voor de Citroën Méhari

In de fascinerende wereld van verzamelen zijn er liefhebbers die echt opvallen. Dat geldt zeker voor Marc C., een toegewijde verzamelaar van Citroën Méhari-modellen in verschillende schalen, samen met allerlei bijbehorende memorabilia.

Zijn verhaal is er een van ware passie die is uitgegroeid tot een levensstijl.

De Citroën Méhari, een iconisch voertuig uit de jaren 60 tot 80, is nog steeds op de weg te zien. Maar voor Marc is het veel meer dan zomaar een auto.

Met zijn unieke ontwerp, ABS-kunststof carrosserie en opmerkelijke veelzijdigheid roept de Méhari onmiddellijk mooie herinneringen op.

Elke miniatuur in zijn collectie vertegenwoordigt een stukje geschiedenis en de vrijheid die dat tijdperk kenmerkte.

Hoewel zijn liefde voor de Méhari werd aangewakkerd door de films De Gendarmes van Saint-Tropez, begon het allemaal echt meer dan 30 jaar geleden, vertrouwt hij me toe. Het begon met een eenvoudige miniatuur die hij op een rommelmarkt vond—een ontdekking die in de loop der jaren uitgroeide tot een indrukwekkende verzameling. Inmiddels omvat zijn collectie schaalmodellen, vintage objecten, speelgoed en een uitgebreide bibliotheek met technische en speelse boeken.

Zijn collectie bestaat uit plastic miniaturen, strandspeelgoed, promotionele series en metalen replica’s, elk zorgvuldig gekozen vanwege hun authenticiteit en representativiteit. Of het nu gaat om modellen van Mont-Blanc, Norev, Solido, Heller, NEX, MOB, Aroutcheff, Polistil of Ampatoys, er is zoveel te bewonderen.

Je kunt er gemakkelijk uren doorbrengen en steeds nieuwe details ontdekken.

Ik was ook onder de indruk van zijn uitgebreide verzameling Méhari-gerelateerde producten, variërend van metalen borden en sleutelhangers tot een breed scala aan op maat gemaakte ontwerpen. Deze ontwerpen bestrijken verschillende thema’s, zoals de Ronde van Frankrijk, oude advertenties, filmfiguren en animatiepersonages.

Marc C. neemt actief deel aan bijeenkomsten met andere Méhari-liefhebbers uit België en Frankrijk (MCDF) en stelt zijn collectie tentoon op verschillende evenementen. Deze bijeenkomsten stellen hem in staat om nieuwe contacten te leggen en zijn passie te delen met andere Méhari-fans, wat bezoekers van alle leeftijden steeds weer enthousiast maakt.

Tien jaar geleden lanceerde hij een uitgebreide website, www.mehari-expo.be, die ik ten zeerste aanbeveel. Ook heeft hij een socialemediapagina, waar hij zijn passie deelt met een actieve gemeenschap in Europa en daarbuiten.

In een wereld die steeds sneller draait, heeft Marc in zijn collectie een plek gevonden voor creativiteit en nostalgie—een prachtige eerbetoon aan de avontuurlijke geest die de Méhari nog steeds belichaamt.
